A new collaboration means more effective affordable housing development for Waltham! In 2010, WATCH was a founding member of Metro West Collaborative Developers (MWCD), an active partnership between: - WATCH- Watertown Community Housing - Belmont Housing Trust - Lexington Housing Partnership MWCD allows these smaller groups to pool resources in order to do affordable housing more effectively and efficiently. MWCD will put together and carry out the deals under the direction of the board, which is made up of equal representatives from each group. The member groups retain our local connection and accountability for developments done in our community. So WATCH will still decide which housing deals we want to pursue in Waltham and will ensure that any development that MWCD conducts in Waltham reflects local interests and needs. WATCH gets to retain our deep connection and commitment to the local community while employing this new entity to conduct our affordable housing development work for us. WATCH has two representatives on the MWCD board and will soon be looking for a third. We will work with MWCD with the intent of making an offer on at least one of them this year. May, 2011: A student team in the Federal Home Loan Bank Affordable Housing Development Competition selected MWCD as their partner in the competition and has designed a complete proposal for affordable housing on Cooper Lane in Waltham.
