Current & Future Housing Developments

JUNE, 2010 NEWS FLASH:

WATCH IS NOW SELLING AN AFFORDABLE 1-BEDROOM CONDO!

For a brief overview, click here.

For all the details, including the application packet, visit the Waltham/Watertown Lottery web page.

Beacon Valves Factory, Jackson Street

WATCH is now under agreement to purchase land at 2 Jackson Street in order to create six units of affordable housing. Located at the intersections of Jackson and Central Street the property is a perfect smart growth location. It's just one block from the Waltham Common, the commuter rail station and stops for 8 different busses. WATCH plans to demolish the former Beacon Valves factory, which has been an eyesore in an otherwise residential neighborhood for several years. We will replace the building with six townhomes designed by G Street Architects, all of which will be highly energy efficient, affordable, and sold to first-time homebuyers.

Banks School, Main Street

The Banks School sits on the corner of Main Street and South Street, at the western entrance to downtown Waltham. The School has been vacant since 2005 and, in part due to organizing by WATCH members, the City of Waltham has decided to reuse the School for affordable housing.  The City of Waltham is now working on a process that would result in the conversion of this building into affordable housing.  WATCH may well be a part of that process!

Fernald State School, Waverly Oaks Road and Trapelo Road

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is planning to close this 190-acre campus, and sell the land so that it may be redeveloped. Since 2003, WATCH has been part of the Fernald Working Group (FWG), a coalition of residents and community organizations working to ensure meaningful public involvement in the decision-making process. The FWG conducted extensive public outreach, resulting in the creation of a reuse vision for the Fernald that includes housing for a range of incomes and abilities, extensive open space, transit links, small scale retail, community space and more.  When requests for proposals for the housing part of the plan are made public, WATCH intends to respond.
